FAQ for music – I’m just asking

On the occasion of International Music Day, a community of adults playing the piano gathered in Vilnius to listen to each other. Since 2018, pianist, music educator, and adult piano teacher Eglė Andrejevaitė has been inviting pianists – both professionals and amateurs –  to celebrate on October 1st.

This year’s event was dedicated not only to listening, but also to asking questions about music or performing. FAQ FOR MUSIC: I’M JUST ASKING took place at the Gabnys.Gabnienė Law Office located in the Arkangelo Conference and Art Center in Vilnius.

Eglė “served” the questions to the audience divided into three groups such as: how the human ear “reads” music, what are the parameters of music, what functions a pianist performs simultaneously, and which are the most challenging and important aspects for successful playing and improvement.

Three adults – Indrė, Rasa, and Viktoras – performing in the event became the musical part as well as inspiration for the topics. Indrė, who had only spent 13 hours learning with E. Andrejevaitė, shared her personal goal of learning to play and sing simultaneously.

Rasa’s performance of Erik Satie’s Gnossienne helped the audience to identify musical emotions, while Viktoras’ playing the Frédéric Chopin étude became an exercise in pulse and rhythm for the audience.

The generous invitation by lawyers and music lovers Jovita and Andrius Gabnys to hold the event in their office echoed the words of Lord Yehudi Menuhin, who wished that “International Music Day be the prelude to a day of global mutual assistance.” Thank you for the kindness Gabnys Law firm.

This gathering undoubtedly became a powerful inspiration for all the pianists in the audience. Even long after the official program finished, they continued discussing how to meet and play for each other more frequently. “We won’t learn to play on stage if we only do it twice a year, Eglė,” they said as goodbyes…

Happy International Music Day 2024!
